Using a saline solution is a crucial aspect of practicing Jala Neti. But sometimes you may find it difficult to decide as to which variety you want to try. Ideally, pure sea salt is the perfect one to be used for this purpose. Below we have mentioned the different types of salt available in the market today and their suitability for practicing Jala Neti.
This is usually pure sea salt, but make sure to check the package. It may vary in texture- the finer, the better as it dissolves quickly and evenly. If you can’t find fine salt, then you can grind it on your own. Store the salt in an airtight container to avoid the clumping. You can find this type of salt in supermarkets easily.
This is finely milled cooking salt with a free-flowing agent in it to prevent it from lumping. This one can be used for Jala Neti without causing any harm if cooking salt is not available. But try to avoid using it, if you have a choice.
This is a mixture of salts, spices and some herbs. This one is of no use for practicing Jala Neti. Never use this one.
Depending on the origin, rock salts may contain other minerals in them, therefore, are not suitable neti kriya. These are usually available in very big, hard crystals. It is a good option for cooking, but not a suitable option for adding to your neti pot.
This one is often grayish in color and is just sea salt from Japan. It is more expensive compared to local salt and can be used for Jala Neti with no harm.
